Questions about pregnancy pillows

When should I start using a pregnancy pillow?

Whenever you start to feel uncomfortable, often in the second trimester. From about 28 weeks, midwives in the UK and elsewhere advise going to sleep on your side, and a pregnancy pillow makes that easier.

Which is better, a U or C pregnancy pillow?

A U-shaped pillow supports both sides, so you can turn over without moving it, but it takes a lot of bed. A C-shaped pillow is a little smaller and supports your back on one side and your front on the other.

Why should I sleep on my side in late pregnancy?

Studies have linked going to sleep on your back in the third trimester with a higher risk of stillbirth. The overall risk is low, but side sleeping is an easy step. If you wake on your back, just turn onto your side again.

Can I use a pregnancy pillow after birth?

Yes. Many people use it for support while feeding, or as a body pillow. Never leave a baby to sleep on or next to one.
